TWO people have died with a positive result for Covid-19 in Dorset hospitals. 
 

Data released by NHS England on Tuesday, February 23, showed that one coronavirus related death was reported at University Hospitals Dorset and Dorset County Hospital in the last 24 hours.

However updated statistics show that the two hospitals have reported 14 and three deaths respectively in the last five.

Since the start of the pandemic, a total of 819 people have died with the virus in the county’s hospitals.

The total number of deaths at University Hospitals Dorset, which runs Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Poole Hospital, now stands at 646 deaths.

Dorset County Hospital's total stands at 103, while Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation's remains at 70. 

Nationally, a further 372 people, who tested positive for the Covid-19 virus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 81,854.

This is a sharp increase from 160 deaths reported yesterday.

Patients were aged between 28 and 99 years old. All except 16 (aged 44 to 99 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

A total of 42 deaths were recorded in the South West region, with the highest number - 85 - recorded in the Midlands.
