BANK staff intervened when an 83-year-old went to withdraw £5000 after receiving a call from people posing to be Bedfordshire Police.
The pensioner went to withdraw the money from the High Street in Christchurch after the scammers revealed personal information on her, gaining her trust.
A spokesperson for Christchurch Police said: “It’s always sad to start the shift by speaking to a victim of a scam who feels ashamed and embarrassed.
“An 83-year-old female living in Christchurch received a call posing to be Bedfordshire Police. They had personal information on the victim which gained her trust. They instructed her to attend the bank in the High Street and withdraw £5000.
“Luckily, the bank intervened and no money was given. We have offered reassurance and support as this has really affected her.
“Just to remind you all the police will never ask you to withdraw money or send a taxi to collect money.
“Please report any suspicious phone calls to action fraud or 101.”
