FEWER than 40 coronavirus cases were confirmed in Dorset over the last 24 hours, the government’s daily update revealed.

In the 24 hours leading up to 4pm on Tuesday, 39 cases were confirmed across the county.

The BCP Council area recorded 23 new cases, taking the total since the start of the pandemic 24,826.

In the seven days leading up to March 4, the latest rolling seven-day period, 153 cases were confirmed, giving a rolling infection rate of 38.7 per 100,000 people.

The Dorset Council area recorded 16 new cases, taking the total 11,407.

The rolling infection rate was 33.6 per 100,000 after 127 cases were confirmed in a week.

Elsewhere, three cases were confirmed in the New Forest, taking the total to 5,961.

The rolling infection rate stood at 31.3 per 100,000 people with 56 cases confirmed in the week before March 4.
