LIFEBOAT volunteers were called to help an unwell crew member on a yacht anchored off the northern end of Swanage Bay this morning.

The sailor was suffering from seasickness, along with some other underlying conditions.

Swanage's all-weather lifeboat, George Lacy, was sent to assist the yacht just after 9am.

A spokesman for the Swanage RNLI said: "The lifeboat launched and the volunteers were soon alongside the casualty vessel.

"Once alongside two crew members were put aboard to assess the casualty and work out the best way to evacuate.

"After initial assessment it was requested that an ambulance be dispatched to meet the casualty at the lifeboat station for further checks.

"The casualty and partner were transferred to the lifeboat and slow speed was made back to the lifeboat station."

After a full check up from paramedics the casualty was allowed to return home.

Visibility was good and the sea state was described as 'slight' at the time of the rescue.
