Network Rail has said it is now prepared to replace the chain link fence at Dorchester South station with fencing panels.

Dorchester Town Council has been pressing for the business to replace the brick wall in Alfred Road which fell down.

Town councillors say it has left the area looking untidy and has attracted rubbish which has not been cleared away - giving visitors a poor impression of the county town when they arrive by train.

Network Rail initially refused to make any changes but then also came under pressure from West Dorset MP Chris Loder - once a station manager for the site.

Town councillors heard this week that the offer was now on for a panel fence with posts – although it has yet to be shown the drawings.

Councillor Stella Jones said: “It’s sometimes worth making a fuss. At least now they have thought about something better. It should at least hide the litter.”
