THE Sandbanks chain ferry service has been suspended for a second day.

The ferry, which runs between Sandbanks and Studland, was first suspended at around 2.50pm on Wednesday, April 14.

Operators Bournemouth – Swanage Motor Road and Ferry Company tweeted: “The Sandbanks Ferry service is currently suspended. We will update as soon as we have a recommencement time. We apologise for any inconvenience.”

On Wednesday afternoon, a vessel became pinned against the ferry while trying to help passengers off the boat.

RNLI crews from Poole and Swanage were tasked by the UK Coastguard to the scene, with concerns for the passengers of board and the risk of the vessel taking on water.

At 8.30pm on Wednesday, Sandbanks Ferry said the service was still suspended and that an update would be given at 12pm on Thursday.
