A KEY route through Dorset will close overnight for roadworks later this month.

Highways England workers will shut the A31 eastbound from the Bere Regis roundabout in order to install a new illuminated sign.

The road will close at 9pm on Monday, July 19 and reopen by 6am on Tuesday, July 20.

Drivers will be advised to follow a diversion route to bypass the roadworks via the A35 and A350, but can alternatively use roads through Bloxworth.

A spokeswoman for Highways England said: "There is an upcoming one night closure on the A31 eastbound from the Bere Regis roundabout for work to erect and connect a new illuminated sign. The work was due to take place on July 14 but has been re-scheduled for July 19.

"There is a short diversion route which goes down the A35 towards Poole then north on the A350 to re-join at the Roundhouse roundabout.

"The A31 eastbound will be open again from The Winterbournes. The closure is due to take place from 9pm until 6am but should re-open earlier."
