WESTLAND SPORTS 6

BALTI Sports suffered a seventh home Jewson Dorset Premier League loss in nine games as Westland Sports claimed a resounding 6-2 win at Weymouth College.

Balti, who were once more down to the bare bones, conceded a number of sloppy goals – and former Dorchester Town hitman Phil Ormrod took advantage with a hat-trick.

In a frantic start, Westland took the lead in the first minute when Finlay Cauldwell reacted quickest to tap past Balti replacement keeper Matt Barrett after a cross struck the bar.

Balti’s Phil Anderson levelled the scores on six minutes with a volley inside the area before Jack Drummond and Liam Taylor missed opportunities for a second.

Westland responded by taking the lead in the 11th minute, Luca Martin capitalising on defensive hesitancy from a long ball to slot home.

If Westland’s second was a poor goal to concede, their third was even worse as the Balti defence froze from a back pass, allowing Ormrod to nip in and score the easiest of finishes.

Ormrod had his second on the cusp of half-time when he converted a wayward shot at the back post for 4-1.

Early in the second half, Balti striker Danny Andrews went off with a suspected medial knee ligament injury and Cauldwell then notched his second.

And Ormrod completed his hat-trick with a clinical strike from the edge of the box to make it 6-1.

Balti never gave up and were given a minor reward when Matt Chambers drilled home a low finish from 20 yards.

Balti boss Marco Nott said: “It’s really weird, we were conceding goals like an under-12s match. Anything on site was going in and through no good play of their own.

“It was such bad errors that we were conceding. You can’t afford to give good sides chances like that because they’ll punish you, especially Ormrod who’s been about the block.

“We literally gifted him a hat-trick and I’ll bet he can’t believe how easy it was.

“It’s so frustrating. The actual in-play part of the game we played quite well. What I can’t fault is that the lads kept going.

“It was arguably the worst goals I’ve seen us concede all season, it really was the basics.

“To concede six at home is really disappointing and I think that’s twice it’s happened now – Westland and Ham Rec. We’ve got to eradicate these stupid goals we’re conceding.”
