SWANAGE & Wareham welcomed Yeovil to Bestwall and started 2022 with a comfortable 32-15 win.

Victory put Swans up to fifth in Southern Counties South, with seven triumphs coming from their 12 league games.

It did not start well for the hosts. From a catch and drive move, the visitors scored a try in the corner.

Two successful penalty attempts, coming from the boot of Matt Spencer, put Swans ahead at 6-5 just past the break.

But some poor tackling down the side of the field saw Yeovil reclaim the lead with a try in the corner.

Swans came back with a couple of penalties taking them into the Yeovil 22 and a quick move had full-back Rory Ferguson scoring close to the posts. Spencer added the extras to make it 13-10.

It was mostly Swans on the offensive from that point and after 62 minutes from a scrum close to the Yeovil line, number eight Marcus Seaton powered his way over the try line.

From a Yeovil penalty which did not reach touch, Ferguson then took the ball in his own half, broke clear, shrugged off three tackles and scored a try under the posts for a fine individual score. Spencer converted.

Swans sealed a bonus point try with 10 minutes to go. A move along the backs had replacement winger Harry Spyers sprinting clear to score close to the posts. Spencer added the extras.

Yeovil grabbed a consolation score late on but it was not to matter, as Swans finished comfortable victors.
