A CLASSIC Jaguar, which has been kept in the same family for more than six decades, is to be sold at auction.
Going under the gavel at the Dorset-based Charterhouse’s collector car auction on Wednesday, July 6, is a Jaguar Mk II which rolled off the production line in 1960.
Finished in mist grey with a red leather interior, it was fitted with the 3.4 litre engine mated to an automatic gearbox.
For 62 years, the Jaguar has been passed down from a grandfather to his grandson and has remained in and around the town of Ilminster throughout its existence.
With a large history file, including its long expired 1960 guarantee, it has only travelled an average of 1,400 miles from new.
A few years ago it was treated to a bare metal respray but, with a recent house move, the owner has taken the difficult decision to let a new family take over custodianship of the beloved Jag.
Charterhouse founder Richard Bromell said: “It is amazing to see a car being owned and cherished by one family for such a long time.”
The Jaguar will go on sale at the Haynes International Motor Museum and is expected to fetch between £17,000-£19,000.
