A FATHER and his son's football team successfully completed a difficult fundraising task, drawing a large audience to see an emotional finish.

Christian Smyth from Christchurch was 'blown away' by the support after completing a 40km running/kayaking challenge on Saturday, June 11.

He kayaked between Tuckton Tea Gardens and Iford Bridge creating a 5km loop which he completed eight times.

Christian raised over £5,500 in total for University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity and PSC Support charity.

Christian, who coaches his son's U8's football team, said: "12 of the boys took part throughout the day, for some it was their first experience kayaking and it was great to share this with them.

"The challenge took us around seven hours and I was absolutely blown away by the support and encouragement we received throughout the day.

"They are such a great bunch of boys and each and every one of them played their part.

"5km of running and kayaking at their age is a tremendous achievement.

"Throughout the day we discussed strength, resilience and how the mind is a powerful tool.

"There were some tired arms and legs along the way, but together we found that inner strength to push forwards and complete the challenge. I'm so proud of them all and I hope this experience will serve them well I'm the future.

"A large crowd was gathered at the finish, with the boys running down to the slipway to see us kayaking in.

"There were a few tears at the finish line which brought an end to what has been an emotional few weeks."
