A PICTURESQUE cobbled road in Dorset that became famous after it featured in a TV advert has been crowned as one of the most attractive streets in the UK.
Gold Hill in Shaftesbury, the main setting for the 1973 ‘Boy on Bike’ TV advert for Hovis bread, was ranked as the UK’s third most beautiful road.
The research, conducted by property experts GetAgent, involved using eye-tracking software to determine which streets were most visually appealing to the human eye.
Participants were asked to examine a set of images depicting over 50 of the world’s most picturesque roads, and AI technology was used to analyse their eye movements in order to rank which streets are ‘truly the most eye-catching’.
Study participants were observed staring at a picture of Gold Hill for 3.4 seconds each, on average, and the image received 348 views overall.
In first place was Edinburgh’s Circus Lane – a charming street full of hanging baskets, colourful front doors and a cobbled street. Participants focused on it for almost four seconds.
Second place is The Circus, a ring of townhouses in the Roman city of Bath. Viewers spent 3.74 seconds on images of this street.
