WHAT do a New Forest pony, pig, tent and ice cream sundae all have in common?

They all feature as tokens on a New Forest version of the iconic board game Monopoly which launches today.

Mr Monopoly, the board game’s official mascot, will formally launch the New Forest edition at the Balmer Lawn Hotel.

He will be arriving in spectacular style - in a vintage 1914 Rolls-Royce Alpine Eagle, courtesy of the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu.

Both the Balmer Lawn Hotel and National Motor Museum get to feature prominently in the game on their very own squares.

Bolton’s Bench, Rufus Stone, Exbury Gardens and the New Forest National Park itself, which gets to land on the top ranked square (‘Mayfair’) in the game, also feature.

In all, more than 30 New Forest landmarks and favourites are showcased in the game.

Last year it was announced that the New Forest is getting its very own official version of Monopoly. At the time of the announcement the public was invited to send in suggestions.

"We have been wonderfully spoiled for choice putting this edition,” says Ella Gibbs from Winning Moves UK. “Thank you to everyone who contributed during the public consultation process.”

The board has been produced by London-based games company Winning Moves UK, under licensing from global branded entertainment leader Hasbro.

The sets have been themed in genres.

From heritage to tourism, hotels to shopping, business to travel– and lots more. There’s a ‘show’ set which includes The Ellingham Show and the New Forest and Hampshire County Show.

And the quartet of trains stations from the London original classic are handed over to stations, including Brockenhurst.

Several charities also get to feature including Simon Says, New Forest foodbank Basics Bank and Love the Forest Ms Gibbs, who is Customs Games Executive at Winning Moves UK, said: “It’s a board for the ages - past and present.

“It’s a celebration of everything that is New Forest, from landmarks with history dating back to the year 1100 through to today’s local Foodbank.”

Michael Clitheroe, General Manager at Balmer Lawn Hotel & Spa, said: “We’re excited to host the showpiece launch event for the Monopoly: New Forest Edition game – and we will be rolling out the red carpet for Mr Monopoly himself.

Richard Morgan, marketing manager for Beaulieu Enterprises Ltd, said: “We are thrilled that Beaulieu, home of the National Motor Museum, is featuring prominently on the New Forest Monopoly board.

"It's a wonderful recognition of the beauty and history of the village, the Estate and attraction, nestling in the very heart of the New Forest National Park.”

The game hits the shops at 10am on Thursday, April 27, with WHSmith, Waterstones and Amazon amongst the leading stores stocking the board.
