A DISABLED man had to rely on support from friends and charity after Tesco 'failed to deliver his grocery shopping'.

Kevin Giles spent £94 on his supplies to be brought to his Boscombe flat only to be left “eating a mushy pea sandwich” from what was left in his cupboards.

The 64-year-old, who lost an arm and leg in a motorbike crash in 1984 and has mobility issues, hit out at Tesco saying it “couldn’t give a monkey’s” about its customers.

He said: “I placed an order for August 28 between 9pm and 10pm, but it never showed up, so I called the helpdesk, who said the delivery had been attempted but failed and the driver had gone home.

“They said a refund could be organised but that the money wouldn’t be in my bank for three to five working days.

“But I explained to them that I had insufficient money to place another order and asked for it to be brought to me the following day.”

Kevin woke up the next morning to an email stating a refund would be given, so he called them back to explain followed by “a load of headbanging”.

“We were going round and round and round, I asked to speak with a manager or head office but they said nobody was available.

“They need a better system in place to stop this sort of thing happening to people who are more vulnerable than me.”

With the help of friends and charity We Are Humans, Kevin’s cupboards soon had food in them to keep him going.

Kevin, who lives with his cat Truder and has since been refunded, added: “Management couldn't give a monkey’s about it, it’s their cock up to solve and they haven’t. They don’t want to be troubled by the public.

“I’m angry that these big companies get so big that they don’t care about the one or two people who get left behind.

“I have since placed an order with Sainsbury’s - it costs a little bit more, but at least it will come.”

A Tesco spokesman said: “The vast majority of Grocery Home Shopping orders reach our customers as expected but occasionally things don’t go to plan.

“We are very sorry that this happened and immediately actioned a refund.”
