A POOLE-BASED cosmetics company has won a prestigious award at this year's Make UK regional awards.

Make UK crowned Lush as the winner of the sustainability and energy award for the Southwest.

According to Make UK, Lush ‘had done the most to improve overall environmental performance and enhance sustainability in the last twelve months, praising the brands' operational successes and development of the Green Hub building on the Fleets Corner Business Park.’

The dedicated work from the Green Hub team in Poole was also recognised as an example of the best practice in the manufacturing industry.

This comes after Lush invested £2.3 million for the Green Hub’s development in keeping with their aim to ‘‘leave the world lusher than we found it’.

The Green Hub at Lush in Poole is well known for its sustainability and environmentally friendly efforts.

The hub focuses mainly on reusing, recovering, repairing, repurposing, and recycling materials from its stock.

Lush has also been host to educational trips at its Poole site.

On September 27 and 28, the company held National Manufacturing Day on behalf of Make UK which saw over 100 school children and various local businesses have the opportunity to have an inside look at the making behind Lush’s products and services.

Chase Clark, Lush manufacturing director said: "It's fantastic to see the Green Hub being recognised by Make UK as a pioneering business of the Manufacturing sector in the South.

“We are very proud of our investment in the Green Hub, celebrating its success both operationally and as a community hub over 2023.

“The project has brought together many areas of expertise from across the world of Lush, and we are looking forward to further developing the potential of the building.

“We will continue taking accountability for our waste and working towards circularity, creating a cosmetic and waste revolution”.

The Make UK awards were hosted by Bristol Harbour Hotel on October 17 which celebrated south manufacturers in the regional finals.

In 2024, Lush has been invited to compete in the national finals in January 2024 at St Pauls Cathedral.
