THE owners of a popular outdoor sauna in Sandbanks have plans to open at further locations as they “gear up for future growth”.

Saltwater Sauna Ltd said it will soon be launching another planning application for a new site.

It comes just days after the company had plans approved for a new sauna in Christchurch.

The first wood-fired Finnish ‘Saltwater’ sauna was introduced to Sandbanks in the summer of 2021.

Its suggested health and wellness benefits saw repeat customers push demand through the roof, and the sauna was switched from a mobile model to a permanent facility.

Then, in November 2023, Saltwater Sauna Ltd submitted a planning application to build a new outdoor sauna on Avon Beach promenade.

The proposal involved flattening six beach huts close to the Noisy Lobster restaurant to make space for the building, which would have space for two saunas.

BCP Council approved the scheme earlier this month, with a planning officer noting the scheme will provide jobs and bring income into the area.

In an email sent out to customers, and seen by the Daily Echo, the Saltwater Sauna owners thanked everyone who submitted supporting statements to the application.

They said: “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to you, our loyal customers, for your overwhelming support, with over 300 comments rallying behind our bid.

“Thanks to your voices, our dream of expanding into Avon Beach is now becoming a reality.”

The owners also gave customers a glimpse of their future sauna plans.

They said: “As we celebrate this milestone, we're excited to share that we're gearing up for future growth.

“We'll soon be launching another planning application for a new site(s), and we're counting on your continued support to make it happen.

“The journey from the drawing board to this milestone has been remarkable, and we couldn't have achieved it without the incredible backing of our community.”

The new site locations are not known, although the Saltwater Sauna owners invited people to stay updated with their plans on social media.
