AN apology has been issued to Ferndown residents left alarmed by green coloured water coming out of their taps.

Last week, a number of households in the area reported their water supply had a slight green tinge to it.

Bournemouth Water has now said this was due to a change in water source implemented following heavy rainfall.

The company has assured residents the water is safe, but has apologised to those impacted, and noted the issue should now be resolved.

A spokesperson for Bournemouth Water said: “Last week we had to change where water for customers in Ferndown was supplied from after the boreholes which usually supply the area were affected by heavy rainfall.

"Unfortunately due to the different water source, a small number of customers noticed a slight change in the appearance of their water, caused by the colour in the river Avon that supplies the other source.

“The supply in the area has now been returned to its usual source. We’re sorry to anyone who experienced this change.

"We appreciate that this is not pleasant but would like to reassure customers that the water is fully treated and is fine to continue to use and drink as normal.”
