Rich Hall is a master class, a seasoned pro, very funny guy. And yet I couldn’t help feel disappointed at the end of last night’s show. Rich was still funny, but there were too many bits that I’d heard before, whether from the last time he was down this way, or even from his DVD last year.

At one point before starting a routine he went so far as to say he wasn’t sure if he told us this last time he had been here. Sadly, he had.

Putting all that aside, Rich was still actually funny. Combining material that was current and topical (although some of the topical stuff stopped being topical about seven months ago) with stories about Montana, where he grew up. Somehow, he’s still finding material on the differences between the Brits and the Americans, and how he finds living in Britain (“I’m a comedian, I go where people are the most miserable”); although some of the better material did come when he was telling us about the test he had to take to get British citizenship.

What was a break from his normal set up was coming back out for the second half as himself, not his red-neck alter-ego, Otis Lee Crenshaw, although he still did a couple of the songs he would normally have done, like “Do Anything You Want.”

This was a fairly decent outing for Rich, but was best seen with fresh eyes.
