I HAVE just seen the item in your edition of May 12 about the proposal that we should be incorporated in a National Park. I am alarmed.

The Isle of Purbeck already includes a World Heritage Site, heathlands, Sites of Scientific Interest, Conservation Areas, and many listed buildings.

Natural England, English Heritage, the National Trust and the Council for the Preservation of Rural England have their own bureaucracies, often dominated by people with no particular association with the area but with a mission to make sure we ignorant locals look after the area in accordance with their guidelines, leaving some hapless property owner caught in the crossfire and knowing that nothing he can do will satisfy everybody.

In this context the last thing we need is a National Park superimposed on us as well.
