WITH Studland in mind – following your article “Studland in line for nature award” (January 26) – spare a thought for the rare seahorses that live in Studland Bay that are now faced with extinction, unless action is taken soon.

Damage to the sea grass, which has been their habitat, is the cause of their rapid decline. Studland Bay’s sea grass has also provided a “nursery” environment for many varieties of fish as well as creating a natural barrier against coastal erosion.

Though unsuccessful in the past, there is a proposal, once more, to have this special area designated a Marine Conservation Zone.

If you would like to add your voice in support of this conservation zone please write to Andrea Leadsom MP, House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA or e-mail andrea.leadsom.mp@parliament.uk urging her, in your own words, to press DEFRA for its acceptance.
