Actor Dean Stockwell has passed away at the age of 85.

A representative for Stockwell told TMZ that he died peacefully in his sleep of natural causes on Sunday, November 7.

He was known for numerous roles across both television and film, including the part of Admiral Al Calavicci in Quantum Leap.

Additionally, he was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in the film Married to the Mob, and won Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival twice, for Compulsion in 1959 and Long Day's Journey into Night in 1962.

Tributes had poured in for Stockwell since the announcement came out.

Bilge Ebiri wrote on Twitter: "R.I.P. Dean Stockwell, a great actor who never met a scene he couldn’t steal."

Elle Schneider posted: "To me, Dean Stockwell always radiated a certain playful kindness that made it easy to follow whatever character he played down the rabbit hole, a tremendous strength when taking on such diverse roles. Sad he's no longer with us, but grateful for the performances he leaves behind."

Rick Burin was also complimentary about Stockwell's performances, saying: "Gutted that we’ve lost Dean Stockwell. A terrific kid star at MGM; a hottie holding his own vs Welles, Robards and Kate Hepburn; then – via Quantum Leap – an everyman, moral vacuum and weirdo for Wenders, Friedkin and Lynch.

"He could steal films – or just fit perfectly. A legend," he added.
