The Great British Bake Off (GBBO) returned to Channel 4 last night welcoming 12 new contestants to the famous tent.

The contestants weren't the only new thing on the show last night with Alison Hammond also joining the show for the first time as host alongside Noel Fielding.

Hammond replaced Matt Lucas after he stepped down from the show last year because he could no longer commit to the programme’s schedule alongside his other projects.

Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith returned for another season as GBBO judges.

Who are this year’s contestants?

The batch of 12 new amateur bakers took to the tent for the first time on GBBO last night.

Who was the first person eliminated from the Great British Bake Off 2023?

Season 14 of the GBBO started last night with Cake Week.

The new batch of bakers tackled the task of making a vertical layer cake before taking on the technical challenge which required them to replicate what Hollywood described as the "most iconic Bake Off cake" - the Great British Bake Off chocolate cake.

To conclude they took on their first showstopper which required them to make a cake shaped and decorated in the form of an animal of their choosing.

Dan was awarded as the first star baker of season 14.

But it was bad news for Amos who who became the first contestant eliminated from the 2023 series of GBBO.

The Great British Bake Off will be on Channel 4 every Tuesday night at 8pm.
