MAX Watkins’s late strike gave Swanage & Wareham a 3-2 win over Fleet & Ewshot in Hampshire League Division Four.

Swans led inside 15 minutes thanks to a goal from Duncan Crook but their opponents equalised when a deflected effort beat goalkeeper Paul Selby at his near post.

Midway through the second half, Jack Thompson slotted home but the match was levelled with 10 minutes to go.

However, Swans got their winner when Sam Thompson found Pete Phillips and his cross was put away by Watkins on the rebound.

Captain Crook said: “It was tough game against a very good side and I’m very pleased we came away with the win.”

Swans women had just 10 players available as they lost 4-2 to West Wilts.

The visitors trailed 3-1 at the break with their goal coming after Kate Black found Tanya Read in a good position and she applied the finish.

Read grabbed her second following the restart and came close to completing her hat-trick. But another West Wilts goal wrapped up the result.
