TYRELL Hamilton bagged a brace to fire Cherries under-21s to victory in the Central League Cup final.

Shaun Cooper’s youngsters made the trip to Meadow Lane to face Notts County, eight days on from being soundly beaten by Portsmouth at Canford Arena.

But Hamilton struck either side of half-time against the Magpies to earn a 2-0 win and clinch silverware in Cooper’s first season in charge after he took over from Carl Fletcher in November.

Of those in the Cherries squad, only Kyle Taylor has featured for the first team compared to Notts boasting a handful of senior fringe players.

Cherries started the brighter of the two sides as Jaidon Anthony cut in from the left and fired off target.

But back came Notts as midfielder Shaun Brisley headed against the crossbar.

However, Cherries took a lead into half-time when Anthony’s weaving run and shot was stopped by goalkeeper Max Culverwell, but Hamilton was on hand to turn in the rebound.

A second goal arrived just two minutes after the restart as Hamilton rounded Culverwell and slotted past the covering defenders on the line.

Cherries stopper Mark Travers had to be alert to keep the hosts at bay, making a flying save to deny Remaye Campbell before former Poole Town loanee Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain’s cross was met by Kion Etete, who couldn’t keep his header down.

At the other end skipper Nnamdi Ofoborh went close but Hamilton’s brace was enough to secure victory.
