SWANAGE & Wareham’s ladies first team made a perfect start to life in Hampshire Hockey League Division Four after a convincing 5-0 victory over Aldershot & Farnham IV.

The hosts got off to a perfect start when debut captain Amy Lucas opened the scoring after just two minutes, following a perfectly-placed short corner.

Hollie Casey then took on the Aldershot keeper to score Swans’ second goal, quickly followed by a third from a deftly reverse-stick effort by Eden Crook.

The second half continued much in the same vein with Liz Solomon scoring the hosts’ fourth goal and Kate Black netting from the penalty spot to make it five.

After the game, captain Lucas said: “I couldn’t have asked for a better start to our season, the players really gave it their all and made my job an easy one.”

In football, Swanage Town & Herston suffered a chastening 3-0 defeat at Dorset Premier League rivals Bournemouth Sports.

Clive Makoni struck twice for the hosts with Luke Pidgley also getting on the scoresheet. Swans have picked up eight points from 10 games this season.

In rugby, Rory Ferguson’s last-gasp try earned Swanage & Wareham a dramatic 18-17 comeback victory at Swindon.

The visitors had trailed 17-6 at half-time. Centre Vee Veremu also touched down with eight points coming from the boot of Steve Wooley.
