SWANAGE powered to a 55-25 success over Thatcham in Southern Counties South.

Victory gave the Bestwall outfit their third win from five games this season and moved them into the top-five.

A quick tap-and-go penalty resulted in Swans breaking the deadlock in rapid fashion – fly-half Steve Woolley converting his own score.

Chris Tomes also touched down for the hosts but with Thatcham also recording two tries, the contest was level.

Vee Veremu then sliced through the Thatcham defence to score under the posts and help the hosts to a 19-15 lead.

Swans then began to turn the screw in a dominant second-half display.

Woolley went over for his second try after the break and Matty Matikibau cut inside the defence to score under the posts after 50 minutes.

Will Long crashed over three minutes later before Veremu recorded his second of the afternoon.

Swans number eight Kirk Jones then joined the party with a try of his own as the hosts brought up 50 points. Matikibau touched down his second 10 minutes from time.

Thatcham did score two tries late on but it was not to stop Swanage surging to success by 30 points.

In hockey, goals from Becky Nicholson and Eden Crook ensured Swanage & Wareham ladies’ first team kept up their unbeaten run in Hampshire Division Four.

The visitors bagged a 2-0 victory over Winchester IV.

Captain Amy Lucas said “This was a very hard match but it’s always pleasing to win away from home.”
