Swanage & Wareham RFC narrowly lost an exciting encounter with Combe Down on Saturday, as the visitors ran out 22-24 winners.

Swans started on the front foot. The ball was put into the Combe Down five metre line from a penalty and wing forward Joe Desmond powered over the try from the resulting line out to score Swans’ first try after six minutes.

Steve Woolley converted the try to give Swanage a 7-0 lead.

Combe Down then scored a converted try after 18 minutes to make the score 7-7.

After 30 minutes the visitors scored a penalty and five minutes later scored another converted try meaning score at half time was 7-17.

After 62 minutes, a line out came to Steve Woolley who drove over the try line in the corner, recucing the deficit to two points.

Joe Desmond then put Swans back in the lead with a try that Woolley converted.

Combe Down were not finished and with six minutes to go the fly half crossed kicked to the right winger who caught the ball and went over for a try half way out.

The try was converted to make the score 22-24.

The home side pushed to overturn the score, but the Combe Down held on leaving Swans with a losing bonus point.
