PATCHED-UP Swanage & Wareham visited Combe Down in a re-arranged fixture from February and suffered a chastening 43-7 Southern Counties South defeat.

The setback left the Bestwall outfit fifth in the table, with 50 points coming from 18 games.

The visitors started strongly but after four minutes a breakaway by Combe Down had the hosts scoring under the posts.

However, Swans had a penalty in the Combe Down 22 and, from a line-out on 15 minutes, loose forward Ben Dennett forced his way over the try line.

Winger Rory Ferguson landed the conversion to level the contest at 7-7.

Almost immediately from the restart Swans tried to clear their lines but a charge down by the hosts resulted in their second try.

From that point it was all Combe Down as they scored three more tries in the first half, taking a commanding 31-7 lead.

Two minutes into the second half, Combe Down added to their score with a converted try and another try in the corner made it 43-7.

Swans managed to halt the scoring by the hosts by keeping the ball in the forwards. The visitors held out for the final 30 minutes and once or twice came close to scoring themselves.

Swanage are scheduled to make the trip to Devizes on Saturday, victory would take them back into the top four.
