SWANAGE star Sam Whaley revealed the “freedom” brought by sailing is what he enjoyed most about the sport and added: “No time is ever the same.”

The 23-year-old, whose goal is to become an Olympian, had worked at Microsoft UK when he was just 18.

But the Dorset athlete then jumped at the chance to turn professional in his beloved sport.

Speaking to his sponsors, Golden Buoy, Whaley said: “The sailing background really came from my dad. He sailed around the world when I was born. Since then, we’ve always been around the sea.

“I first starting sailing about eight years ago now. Hated it at first but eventually caught the bug and fell in love.

“I think the best thing that I love about sailing is the freedom it brings. You can go out sailing and no time is ever the same.”
