CORFE Castle have withdrawn from this season's Dorset Premier League.

The club say they have taken the decision "due to the risk of COVID-19".

Corfe had not played any competitive matches in the division this term. Their final pre-season friendly against neighbours Swanage Town & Herston earlier this month wreaked havoc on the league, after a Swans player tested positive for COVID-19 after the game, with both clubs then seeing their Dorset Premier League season openers called off at the last minute with Corfe due to face Balti Sports.

And there will now be no first-team action at The Fortress this season.

A club statement from Corfe Castle read: "It is with regret Corfe Castle first team have taken the decision to sit out the 20-21 Dorset Premier League season due to the risk of COVID-19.

"Specifically, in addition to the health risk our management team and several of our first team player group cannot risk a further self-isolation period as it would be at odds with their home and work commitments.

"Our committee would like to thank the Dorset Premier League for their support and understanding. We wish the league and participating clubs the best of luck for the season ahead."

Corfe Castle reserves have been in action, kicking off their Dorset League Division Four campaign with a 1-0 win over DI United, thanks to a Richard Fieldhouse goal.
