SWANAGE Town & Herston have fallen at the first hurdle of this year's Dorset Senior Trophy.

Goals from Asa Phillips and Josh Pickering were enough to guide Merley Cobham Sports to a 2-0 victory at Day's Park.

Swans fell behind after just nine minutes against a rotated Cobham side.

After the hosts failed to clear a cross into the box, Phillips was on hand to smash past goalkeeper Dan Beeston.

Swans grew into the game, going close when Marcus Smith latched onto Paul Best's pass, but he could not convert in the heavy rain.

Cobham started the second half brightly and almost doubled their tally, striking the crossbar.

As Swans piled forwards in search of an equaliser, Merley struck on the counter attack with Nathan Saxby finding Pickering to slot home.

Merley will now head to Bridport reserves in round two.
