TOM Birch has been named the new manager of Wareham Rangers for the 2021-22 campaign.

Birch, who will be assisted by Tom Brown, will take charge of the club’s first team in the Dorset Premier League, having previously managed the reserves in Dorset League Division One.

He said: “I’m really excited to be taking the job on, Wareham as a club haven’t been performing as they should have in the past few seasons.

“Just a few small, important changes are needed to make us competitive again.”

The Dorset Premier League’s regulation campaign has been declared null-and-void due to the coronavirus pandemic for the past two terms.

But Wareham have struggled in recent campaigns and found themselves bottom of the pile in 2018-19.

“I feel it’s important to bring back the local spirit to the team and get the town on side,” added Birch.

“I’m hoping my enthusiasm for the game will show and bring the club back to where it should be.”

Wareham have also announced Nick Bennett will now take charge of the club’s reserve side.
