CRUISERWEIGHT sensation Chris Billam-Smith is on the brink of finalising a homecoming show in Bournemouth, after revealing a fight with Isaac Chamberlain was “verbally agreed”.

The Shane McGuigan-trained star was speaking on Sky Sports in Coventry on Saturday, having watched stablemate Adam Azim make short work of Anthony Loffet.

Billam-Smith did some training with McGuigan at the venue earlier in the evening before revealing his plans for a Bournemouth summer bonanza, where he will defend his Commonwealth and European belts.

“I have verbally agreed a fight in Bournemouth in the summer,” said the man nicknamed The Gentleman.

“So, let’s hope we can get that over the line and then look out for an announcement.

“Isaac Chamberlain. It’s a great fight, one that nearly happened a few years ago actually but it didn’t for whatever reason.

“I am so happy to get this over the line and hopefully get a show back home in Bournemouth in the summer.”

Billam-Smith has not fought in Bournemouth for eight consecutive bouts. His last outing at home came against Kent Kauppinen at the O2 Academy in December 2018.

A date for his next showdown with Chamberlain is yet to be announced, with the BIC understood to be a likely venue.

Asked how confident he was ahead of the contest, Billam-Smith, who had fellow Dorset fighter Lee Cutler with him in attendance, said: “Yeah of course. I am confident against anyone in the world. All I have got to do is go in there and perform on my day.

“That’s all I’ve got to do in the summer.”

Brixton-born Chamberlain’s professional record stands at 14 victories and one defeat. His one loss came against Billam-Smith’s stablemate Lawrence Okolie in 2018.

“I definitely can’t wait,” said the challenger.

“I don’t mind being on the road, coming to Bournemouth to take his belt.”
