JODIE Burrage’s dreams of glory at Wimbledon will have to wait another year after she suffered defeat alongside teammate Eden Silva in the Women’s Doubles.
Ex-Talbot Heath student Burrage, who recently reached a career-high singles ranking of 141, had clinched headlines during coverage of Day One for the aid she administered to a faltering ball boy.
After a first-round defeat in the Women’s Singles to Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko, Burrage was again knocked out in the first round in the Women’s Doubles.
Silva and Burrage were defeated 6-3 6-4 by Dutch pair Demi Schuurs and Arianne Hartono.
A wildcard at last year’s Wimbledon Championships, Burrage is yet to advance from the first round in the Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.
Whilst she competed alongside Birmingham-born Lloyd Glasspool in the Mixed Doubles event last year, neither Glasspool or Burrage will participate in this year’s competition.
