WEYMOUTH fell to their first defeat of pre-season away at Dorset neighbours Poole Town on Saturday, with the Dolphins edging a healthy contest 1-0.

Former Dorchester Town man Toby Holmes bagged the game’s only goal, rounding goalkeeper Tommy Scott to open scores on the stroke of half-time.

Claudio Osofu was handed a first start after becoming a permanent Terra at right-back, whilst Weymouth boss David Oldfield named three further trialists in his starting line-up.

The entirety of the game was evenly contested, with chances at a premium in both halves.

Toby Holmes was slipped in by namesake Luke Holmes, allowing the striker to round former Dolphin Scott in the Weymouth goal before placing the ball home for the game’s opener just before half-time.

After the break, Teddy Davey’s mazy run from the right saw a cross dragged back across the six-yard box, but Whisken was unable to properly connect with the ball, allowing Scott to collect it before it trickled over the line.

Terras came close to a late equaliser five minutes from time when Tom Bearwish was sent through on goal, but substitute goalkeeper Will Butler produced a fine save with his feet to Poole’s lead intact.

Substitute Dan Matsuzaka came even closer in added time, sending a close range header over the bar with Butler beaten.
