WIMBORNE Town boss Tim Sills saw his side seal a 2-0 home victory over his former club Hamworthy United, in a Dorset derby on Boxing Day.

Success earned the Magpies their 11th League victory of the campaign.

Sills, who left the County Ground for New Cuthbury in October, named stalwart skipper Scott Arnold in his starting XI for the clash with Hammers – his 600th Wimborne Town appearance.

Despite the defender having to limp off early through injury, Wimborne stamped their authority on the contest on 19 minutes.

A classy through ball from Ben Satterley allowed Lewis Beale to run in on goal and apply a neat finish.

And Magpies made it 2-0 before the break. Jez Bedford managed to create space for himself to find the bottom corner.

Hammers almost pulled a goal back before the break when they saw a front-post header fly wide from a corner – but there was another blow for Dan Cann’s side in the second period.

Keeper Tommy Scott was forced off through injury and, with no replacement stopper on the bench, Billy Walker was forced to don the gloves.

But it was at the other end that Wimborne stopper Shane Murphy, who started the season at Hamworthy, who was worked to keep his clean sheet intact – pulling off a fin save to deny Curtis Young.

Defeat left Hamworthy fifth in the league table, with 31 points from 19 games.
