TEENAGE Bournemouth spin all-rounder Connor Smith struck a breezy 69 off 55 balls to halt a collapse by his adopted Australian side Altona North in the Victoria Turf Premier League.
Defending champions Altona had slipped from a promising 123-1 to 160-6 when Smith, who is spending a pre-university gap year in Melbourne, arrived at the crease.
He struck three sixes and five fours, his 69 helping post an eventual 276 against West Coburg St Andrews West, who were 14 without loss at the end of the first day's play.
The match resumes on Saturday when Smith should get a decent left-arm spin bowl.
