THREE members of Poole Pirates’ class of 2023 have found new clubs ahead of next season.

Steve Worrall, Kyle Newman and Joe Thompson were all understood to be keen to stay at Poole, but were deemed surplus to requirements as Pirates built their team for 2024.

But all will be coming up against Pirates, with other clubs.

Worrall, this year’s captain, has been snapped up by reigning champions Glasgow Tigers.

“There’s no doubt that Glasgow was my first choice after leaving the Pirates,” said the 32-year-old.

“The Tigers have been a stand-out powerhouse club in the league along with Poole over the past few years.

“I’ve always been impressed with Glasgow and the hunger to succeed.”

Meanwhile, Newman and Thompson have been confirmed as part of Plymouth Gladiators’ septet.

Gladiators team boss Garry May said: “Kyle lives at Wimborne and I am in Poole, so he’s almost my neighbour! But when he got dropped by Poole, he rung me up.

“He is a gutsy little rider and gets stuck in.”

Newman added: “When I found out I wasn’t at Poole, it was disappointing as I thought I’d had a good year, but hey-ho. It is what it is.

“My options were limited really, so I kept pestering Garry and luckily for me, something crept up.”
