NEW Poole Pirate Tom Brennan will once again take part in the Ben Fund bonanza ahead of the new speedway season.

A summer singing from Glasgow Tigers, Brennan will compete for a third time after two strong showings in previous years.

The annual event has been hosted on the eve of every season since 2009, with the aim of raising money for the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund, which exists to support riders impacted by injuries suffered whilst racing.

This year’s event will be hosted at Championship newcomers Workington Comets’ Northside track on Saturday, March 16.

22-year-old Brennan claimed a podium finish at last year’s bonanza, with former Pirate Danny King claiming his second title.

Brennan shared: “The Ben Fund is a meeting I will always do. Regardless of the situation, regardless of my situation, it’s a meeting that I will use to give back to them. They are good for the sport and they are good for me.

“I’ve done it the last two years and reached the Final both times, getting third last year. It’s a fantastic way to start the year.

“I’m actually really excited to be going to Workington. Stevie Lawson has done a fantastic job there and I think he is proud of what they have achieved.

“It’s new, it’s exciting and there have been really good reports back from people like Dan Bewley and others who have ridden there. I’m excited to be part of that.”

Poole Pirates’ competitive season starts at the end of March when they host Oxford Cheetahs as they start the defence of their BSN Series crown on Good Friday (March 29).

Former Pirate Kyle Newman’s testimonial on Wednesday, March 13 will serve as a curtain raiser for Poole’s season.
