AN INCREASE to the points limit in the National Development League has enabled Poole Pirate Max Perry to bag some extra rides for the 2024 campaign.

It was agreed between National Development League clubs for the point limit for septets to be marginally increased from 36 to 36.25.

Thanks to the 0.25 increase, Perry can now add a ride for Edinburgh Monarch’s Academy side alongside his duties with Poole Pirates.

BSPL chairman Rob Godfrey said: “This move has been agreed between all the clubs in the spirit of rider development, which is what the NDL is all about.

“It was in nobody’s interests for a talented young rider like Max to miss out on a team place in the league just because it would have put Edinburgh over the limit by 0.05 of a point.

“He’s only been in the NDL for two years and the additional meetings will be good for him, especially coming back from his injuries at the end of last season.

“The clubs have all worked together here and seen the bigger picture, and it’s a sensible outcome to ensure one of our top young prospects doesn’t miss out.”

Only 16, Perry has already been riding in the Development League for two years.

Berkshire-based, the teenager will now be racking up the miles with his two teams based at other ends of the United Kingdom.

He shared: “Edinburgh's track is one I'm not used to, but I know I will get the right guidance and support to master it. I would love to become more of a small track specialist.

“After not being asked to be back in the (Leicester Lion) Cubs team, and with my average being slightly high, I honestly didn't think I would be in the National Development League this season, so when Edinburgh contacted me I was thrilled.

“It is going to be about an 800-mile round trip from where I live but I'm 100 per cent committed and will do my very best to help the team get to the top of the table.”
