AFTER a long weekend at a rock festival tonight was exactly what I needed.

An evening filled with two beautiful voices in a venue that is just the right size to provide an intimate experience for the whole audience.

Katie Melua arrived at the Pavilion to play the second date of her tour in support of her Love & Money album that will certainly be yet another success.

Support on the tour is Tamzene who provided the perfect start to the evening with some great songs. On this performance she deserves to go on to much bigger and better things.

The stage is pretty minimalist tonight with the band arrayed across the back leaving Katie front and centre.

As soon as the first note of the first song reaches out into the crowd the whole venue is mesmerised by a combination of the perfect sound, subtle lighting, excellent band and of course Katie herself.

An early version of Nine Million Bicycles was delivered perfectly but then so was everything else!

This was followed by a song featuring her brother Zurab about their days playing on a disused airfield in Georgia.

As the evening progressed the set list comprised of songs from the new album and favourites from across a career that spans twenty years, nine albums and numerous performances across the world.

During the songs the crowd were almost silent as they appreciated every note.

If there is any voice around at the moment that is more beautiful than that of Katie Melua then I have yet to hear it.

The tour has just started so there are plenty more opportunities to catch one of the best shows you will see this year. Don’t miss out.
